Blooming Blossoms

With Spring just around the corner, there is one thing that I'm really excited about -

Tulips

How
It was completely unplanned. I must have seen a brochure while boarding the Spirit of Tasmania last year and made an impromptu visit to the farm as soon as I arrived on Tassie soil.

Where
It's called Table Cape Tulip Farm - located about 13 minutes drive from Wynyard on the North West Coast of Tasmania.
Alternatively, an hour from Devonport; 2 hours from Launceston or 4 hours from Hobart.

When
These photos were all taken on 3rd of October 2016 - smack-bang in the middle of blooming season. I mean, honestly, how many times do you get to be at the perfect place at the perfect time without careful planning? This has to be one of those magical moments.

Having said that, you have an entire month in Spring to enjoy this colourful display. The dates for this year will be Saturday 23rd of September to Sunday 22nd of October. You know where to find me.

What
There was one thing that caught me off guard and I cannot stress this enough but DO wear gumboots if you're planing to head out into the fields and not get your pretty spring shoes ruined in the mud. Don't. Wear. Suede. And DO NOT even think about wearing heels. Although it doesn't sound like an awfully terrible place to be stuck overnight if it really came down to that.

But if you do end up unprepared (like me), breath, because it is not the end of the world. Prior to entering the farm, you will see a number of colourful gumboots that you can hire which also comes with the entrance fee to the farm. And in case you were wondering, it will cost you:

$12 for adults
$10 for seniors/concessions
$8 for students
Free for children 16 and under

Upon entering the fields, you will find yourself with this jaw-dropping sight.

Rows and rows of tulips

And if that wasn't magnificent enough, how about a close-up shot?

Pink ones

But one just isn't enough.

Every shade of orange

I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

If you have more time on your hands, Table Cape lighthouse is a 5 minute drive away. I didn't end up driving up last year so this will definitely be something to tick off my bucket list this year. I did head up on a much later date after blooming season was over. There wasn't much to see then but I would imagine the view from up there would be P-R-E-T-T-Y amazing when the tulips are in full bloom.

So bring your friends and family and while you're at it, don't forget to play hide and seek. A beanie that camouflages amongst the tulips might come handy and this kid certainly nailed it.

What a field of happiness

See you at the Tulip Farm this Spring!
